This week I introduced my students to SUPER E! Let's just say that they are CrAzY about him now! When I hung up their artwork in the hallway, they were so bummed that I wouldn't let them take them home the same day. One little boy said, "But Mrs. Erickson, how will I teach my mom about him if I can't take him home?" Sweet boy! Don't worry, I'll let them take their creations home soon! But for now, they are staying at school while we continue to learn about how awesome SUPER E is.
We haven't gotten through all the practice pages available in my CVCe Packet yet, but in all the pages we have done, SUPER E has made an appearance and he's kind of a big deal... :)
Last year, when I first posted about this unit, some great readers told me about this awesome YouTube video by Mark D. Pencil. Ummmm... WOW! It goes PERFECTLY with this CVCe Packet! My students beg me everyday to let them watch it again!!! {Have I told you lately how much they love SUPER E????}
Next week I am going to show my students the Word Caper. It is a great little Leap Frog video about adding silent E to the end of words. Check it out for yourself {here}!
This Unit Includes: CVCe SUPER E posters {color, b&w, and draw-your-own}, a CVCe lesson suggestion with an accompanying worksheet, an original CVCe story with SUPER E as the main character {in color and b&w} with an accompanying worksheet, a SUPER E craftivity that your students will love {pictured above}, CVCe game {easy prep. work}, and 2 practices pages.

How do you teach your students about CVCe words?

I love Super e! So cute.

Super cute :-)
ReplyDeleteIt would be so much fun to make all of the kids capes during this unit wouldn't it?!?! oooo...and maybe masks and everything... yikes! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea!! Comments like these cost me $$$... ;)
DeleteI bought this unit a while back and love it! I'll be starting silent e in a couple weeks. Thanks for a great product! And I'm loving this video! My kids will go crazy for this. :)

This is so great. We cringe when we start long vowels because our lil peanuts who are already struggling with short now have Bossy E to deal with. Kinda lovin the 'Super' spin because he magically changes the words and isn't a nasty lil bossy thang :)

I bought this lesson last year and I love it! My students love it too! It's a great way to help them remember the rule. They also love that youtube clip as well. Thanks for your great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI used the Mark D. Pencil video last year, and my students were singing the song for the rest of the year! I looooooove that you have a pack (and especially that little guy they can make!) that matches so perfectly! It will be great for my kinides in a couple of months!

Jill, my kids are always singing the song, too! It's too funny! :)
DeleteI have to say, I bought this unit from you a couple of weeks ago and we are working our way through it in my grade 1 classroom, and the kids love it!!!! I can't believe how much they are eating it up! Even my students who struggle with reading, are grasping the concept. My principal came in to do an observation on one of these lessons, and she was blown away! I do love your products. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling me about this!! Comments like this keep me motivated!
DeleteI just introduced silent e or "super e" to my small groups. I can't wait to do their project with my students.

I teach silent E with your Super E packet. I got it when you first made it. My students and I both love it!!! Hadn't seen the vid will definitely show it when we review Super E. Although my kids combine Super E with Silent E and sometimes call him... Super Secret Agent Silent E. His human persona, like a Clark Kent, is a Secret Agent or spy, I lose track of what he is now. LOL Kids, got to love him.

Literacy Without Worksheets
Ginny Dowd (Phonics Dance) has a chant that my second graders love... "Here comes Super Silent E! Say it long and say it strong!" It would go perfect with your unit!
ReplyDeleteFirst, thanks for all of your wonderful ideas and sharing! I use CVC Tile Cards (TileCardFun.com) and after students complete them (in small group with me) we use whiteboards and convert them to CVCe words....we make real words and sometimes "nonsense" words....Students get a big kick out of this activity!
