I am finally in my third year of teaching. I have heard from everyone that your third year is supposed to be WAY better than your second and WAYYYY better than your first. So far, that has been true... however, it is still hard. This year I am trying to stay ahead of the game... two weeks ahead of the game, to be exact. I am still *trying* to get there, but all this planning ahead has got me thinking about my October activities and how I am going to align everything to the common core. It also doesn't hurt that my b-day is in October and so it is pretty much my favorite month! ;)
I've created a Halloween unit for grades K-2 called Oh, So Spooky! It has a cute lil' ghost glyph that I am super excited about! The glyph comes with a writing activity for the back and posters to go with your bulletin board display. My students will be making their ghosts right at the beginning of October, so they can be out on the hallway bulletin board all month long.
These are the posters, so everyone who walks by my class will know what the different parts mean:
This Packet Includes:
- Ghost Glyph Craft w/ Writing Activity and Posters
- Spooky Sentence Activity
- Spooky Story Activity
- Monster Math {Roll-a-Monster}
- Halloween Story Problems
- Bingo Game for Class Party

My first year teaching I was lucky to have my next day plans ready. Yikes. My 2nd year I had my week done in advance. ON breaks like x-mass I would get two weeks done. My third year I had it down and was planned a month in advance and the veteran teachers would come to me to copy my plans. LOL Now 9 years after I started, (ouch 9 years really?) I am back to only doing a week at a time.
ReplyDeleteWhen I would plan a month in advance it was just too much and when I had to alter stuff I never wanted to change my plans. :/ Anyway, I totally get why the veteran teachers came to copy my plans too. There is jut never enough time.
Enjoy your 3rd year, it is a good one.

This is my VERY first full year of teaching, so I understand the whole 'struggling to get ahead' thing.
ReplyDeleteIt's exhausting in more ways than I ever imagined. But, at the same time, in some weird way, I'm loving it!
Needless to say, October is WAY ahead of my schedule at this point because I still have one week before I get there! LOL!
Thank you for sharing though - this is precious and it never helps to get GREAT ideas from other creative minds!

ReplyDeleteJust made the ghost glyphs with my little kiddos -- they turned out SO cool!! Have gotten lots of compliments from other teachers in the building! I put the roll-a-monster in centers this week and they're LOVING it, too!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
