It helps with those students who just want to "get 'er done"... and fast...
It's always a good reminder to S L O W down and do your personal best work!

How do you encourage your students to do their personal best work?
OMGosh! You have totally made my heart happy!!! I have 6 boys who rush and race through everything - their work, who can get to the bathroom faster, who can line up the fastest, and so on! I am printing this out and hanging it up tomorrow!!! Thank you! :)

I always tell them this isn't a race and I don't have a trophy for them. I use the story the tortoise and the hare. Slow and Steady wins the race. We refer back to our work with this story a lot.

ReplyDeleteI have a question - your little words for addition and words for subtraction - is there any way to make that plus and minus sign small so we could tape it to the corner of a desk? I work with some low babies in 1st and 2nd and I find myself saying "how many more means we???" every. single. day. Is that something you can do or should I try it on my own? Let me know what you think.

ReplyDeleteHave you read the book "Me First"? It wonderful for teaching about not trying to always be the first one and it is also very funny. I always read it the first week of school.
