We kicked off the year learning about "even" and "odd" numbers.
(I want them to do their Everyday Learning workbooks independently...)
I found a great idea on... you guessed it Pinterest... with Even and Odd Houses.
I feel in love with it immediately and I had to do it with my second graders.
Click here to view the original/cuter idea (you will have to scroll through the pictures to find it).
Even and Odd Street:
I first had them make the "Even Houses" by following my step-by-step instructions.
I actually used this as a listening assessment, because they all had to turn out the same.
Then I let them go crazy with the "Odd Houses" and they loved it! Some of them even had dog houses!

Thanks Jess! I will definitely use these during calendar time!
How do you teach even/odd numbers?

I have this in my plans in a few weeks! Thanks so much for the download- you saved me a TON of work!!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow I love this (and I think yours is actually cuter than the other one!). Thanks for the download, I am definitely putting this one in my lesson plans!

Cute Idea!! There is also another idea on teachertipster.com He bought a pair of "croc" shoes and wrote the words even on one shoe and odd on the other. When students take a step and say the number, they will know if it is an even/odd #.

I love this idea!!
ReplyDeleteWe are always counting by 2s so we usually just have a math talk about how the 2s are even and the other numbers we don't say are odd.
I'm totally doing this even/odd houses this year though!!! I'll be the coolest teacher on the block! (pun intended!!)

Thanks so much for this idea! During Calendar time, we talked about even and odd numbers in my 1/2 split class... and the 2nd graders knew them but the 1st graders were lost (this is a typical scenario in my class)! I think this will help SO MUCH!
ReplyDeleteMarvelous Multiagers!

A Teacher's Plan
To teach odd and even, I do something each day at calendar that I got from Shari Sloane's website kidscount1234. Go to her site and look under calendar and you will find a picture. I add a cube each day so that on even days the bottom row cube gets a partner. I also color code them. I know this doesn't make a lot of sense, but you can see a picture at Shari's site.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great...ADORABLE idea!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea. It would even work in a middle school setting with positive and negative numbers. Because they are opposites! Think I will be trying that :)
ReplyDeleteI have this in my plans in a few weeks! Thanks so much for the download- you saved me a TON of work!!!

Thanks! (I like yours!) We are going to turn this into a notebooking page at the beginning of this next school year for my two 2nd grade homeschooling kiddos. They happen to do "our community" in social studies JUST before odd/even in math. Wow! Talk about perfect! Going to do the listening activity for the even houses and then slip in a little art lesson about lines, etc for the odd houses.
